FAQ How much feed do your systems grow each day? Our smallest, the iGro, will produce up to 30kg of live fresh green feed per day Larger systems produce up to as much as you'd like, biggest to date we've been involved with is 30 tons a day in Western Australia Our most popular recently are the 500kg day systems, systems up to any size imaginable can be built on site How many kg of live green sprouts per day is recommended Depends on animals, a very small amount will maintain weight in a drought for cattle, sheep, horses... feed rates also depend on how you work them or wish to grow them, their sizes will affect their needs. you can click here for recommendations and of course you are welcome to email or call us with all your needs and questions Do I need to add anything when feeding feedfreedom sprouts? A little straw for roughage... Generally sprouts are a complete feed, with all the nutritional benefits including 20%+ protein, natural enzymes and vitamins .. click here to see more How easy is it to put in a system? Level ground with maybe paving slabs or a concrete slab, 2 meter head water supply out of the sun, simple electrical supply are the only needs. Our T126 500kg system for example only needs the space to park two cars, smaller ones only need one car space Do feedfreedom.com systems need to be inside? No, our outside systems often incorporate extra insulation... Inside reduces running costs of course How do feedfreedom systems actually work? Good quality seed is spread onto special trays shelved in an insulated enclosure Timed watering and temperature control, with lighting, grows 6kg sprouts per 1kg grain over 6 days Water and electrical costs are minimal, about 2litres day per kilo of sprouts and usually only around $2-4 day total electricity Is there much labour required? Enough to spread the seeds on the trays and harvest the 8kg mats of sprout each day. A little cleaning. Thorough clean every six months suggested What are the labour saving benefits Not handling masses of hay How can I compare the cost and effort of my existing arrangements with a feedfreedom system? Most of our customers use barley with the addition of many others ....lupin, fenugreek, sunflower seeds are currently popular Why use a feedfreedom sprout system? To save $$$$ is a prime reason for most... ... the savings will generally pay for the systems usually well within 2 years, often within a year To give your livestock a much better, natural feed ... An absolute minimal amount of land is needed for a large amount of stock To play the market selling and buying for better profitability Only Minimal water is needed Around 95% of the sprouts are digested, giving top results and returns For animals to benefit from feed with over 20% protein, natural enzymes and vitamins from your sprouts... To avoid the high expense of fetching and using other costly additives, which are also sometimes of suspect value growing or collecting, storing and daily feeding out of large quantities of dry hay is reduced dramatically to just providing a little straw for roughage Just avoiding the inconvenience of hay is reason enough for many of our customers ... Usually half the amount of grain is required Supplements and additives generally not needed Large amounts of your labour saved Better yields and returns Why hydroponics? This is dealt with in several ways and it is a testament to these systems mould is hardly ever experienced We use a small amount of disinfectant .... Which can be organic Who or What can eat sprouts? Cattle Horse Sheep Goats Pigs Alpacas and we Humans benefit greatly too Are there different sizes of systems? iGro up to 30kg day systems are used in multiples until around 90kg feed a day is needed, when our T series of transportables are used. "T" transportable systems range in capacities up to 500kg day ... Thereafter or aternatively we install fixed systems of any capacity inside or outside on your property. What are the basics about feedfreedom.com sprout systems? The sprouts (usually mostly barley) are grown in self draining trays, livestock enjoys the sprouts complete including the softened seed and roots ... Digesting 95%+, conveniently avoiding the use or need for removal of any growing media How are the sprouts harvested and fed? Harvesting is simply a matter of moving the conveniently sized 6/8 kg "mat" or "biscuit" of sprouts from the tray in the system and putting them in your wheelbarrow, trailer or ute and feeding out We sometimes wonder if we should issue a warning to our customers not to be inbetween their animals and their feeedfreedom sprouts .... Our cattle and horses will come running over several hundred metres when their feed is brought For Horses we suggest and can provide a system to minimalise horses eating soil or dust to minimize colic possibilities What about mould? It's important to have mould free sprouts, so our systems incorporate several means to help this be the case... Chlorine or certified organic compounds are used in the integral water tank to very slightly disinfect ... these are easily sourced consumables Is there much work involved? Harvesting, cleaning and seeding trays each day is only a short task What quality of grain is used? To produce your sprouts we'd suggest using good seed quality barley with 95%+ germination What do I need to provide for a feedfreedom.com sprout system? You system only needs simple water and electrical connections and a level surface, and a small drain away point for excess water released after irrigation .... How much water will I use and how is use regulated An integral timer automates irrigation, which only uses a very small amount of water each day, around 2litres per kilo of sprouts. If you can grom vegetables in your water it's fine for sprouts How much grain is used each day? One kilo of grain produces 6kg of sprouts Where are feedfreedom based and where do you supply Our base is on our farm in Toodyay where you are most welcome, we ship any where in the world. Where can I see a system? We may have a customer you can visit near you and we usually have a demonstration T series transportable system in Toodyay as well as an iGro demonstrator for you to see....
